Co-owner of Matthews Yoga Collective
My husband and I moved to Matthews in 2013 after spending eight years in Baltimore and Silver Spring, Maryland. I attended high school and college in Raleigh, North Carolina, and my parents relocated to Charlotte during college. While I hadn’t anticipated returning to North Carolina, I fell in love with Matthews—the charm of its community and the opportunities it offered for both family life and professional growth. We found a welcoming neighborhood where we could raise our children, and my husband could start his business.
Professionally, I am a critical care and emergency room nurse with over 20 years of experience. When I moved to Matthews, I began working at Novant Matthews and quickly developed a strong connection to the healthcare community here. Over time, I transitioned from bedside nursing to consulting roles within hospitals, maintaining my passion for caring for others in every career phase. My family, including my teenage daughter and son, continues to thrive alongside my husband, who remains dedicated to his Matthews-based business.
Yoga has been a personal journey for me—one marked by years of practice, both consistent and sometimes sporadic. I often found myself challenged by time constraints and the availability of suitable spaces. Yet, the more I practiced, the greater the mental and physical benefits I experienced. While online classes offered convenience, I realized nothing compared to the energy and connection of community practice—sharing space with instructors and fellow students. This revelation planted the seed for our yoga studio, a space close to home that embodies accessibility, comfort, and inclusivity.
We founded our studio to create a welcoming environment for yogis of all levels. Whether you’re new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, our studio offers classes tailored to various needs—from gentle flows to more vigorous sessions. Our mission is rooted in fostering a sense of belonging and supporting personal growth in practice and life. Our instructors are committed to helping students grow at their own pace, ensuring that every visit feels enriching, whether once a day, once a week, or once a month. Located in the heart of Matthews, our studio reflects the warmth and interconnectedness of this town—a place where walking down Trade Street feels like stepping into a community that genuinely cares.
Our goal has always been to provide a space where everyone feels valued, empowered, and free to grow. At Matthews Yoga Collective, yoga is more than a practice—it’s an experience rooted in connection, growth, and belonging.
